Perfect Chemistry

The book I chose to read for my reading project is called Perfect Chemistry. I like it a lot so far. It is told by two people. One is a girl named Brittany Ellis, and she is the captain of the cheerleading squad, blonde, the captain of the football team's girlfriend, and very popular. She is pretty much the girl everyone wants to be in high school. The other is Alex Fuentes, who is Mexican and is in a gang called the Latino bloods. He is basically the bad guy in high school. They both attend Fairfield High School, in Fairfield, a suburb of Chicago. Alex lives on the south side of town, which is the bad part. Brittany lives in the north part of town, which is the upper class rich part. There is sort of a rivalry between the two sides, because north siders don't really talk to south siders, and vice versa. Brittany may seem perfect to everyone she is around, but she puts on a perfect image for everyone because she actually has a lot of problems at home that only her best friend Sierra and her boyfriend Colin know about. Her sister is twenty years old and is mentally retarded, her mother is paranoid, and her father is barely around. Alex sort of does the same thing as Brittany. He puts on a bad guy image, but he really can't stand being in a gang and just wants to protect his family, and misses his father, who got shot when he was six years old. The story starts when Brittany and Alex are partnered up in Chemistry class, and they have to be partners for the rest of the year. They can't stand each other, Alex thinks Brittany is a stuck up snob from the north side, and Brittany thinks Alex is a drug dealer and is just bad news to be around. Alex kind of starts to like Brittany, and he tells his gang friends about it. One of his friends, Lucky, bets him his motorcycle that he can't get her to sleep with him by the end of the year, and he agrees. So Alex does everything to get with her. Brittany can't stand him, but for some reason she can't get him out of her mind. Brittany's boyfriend, Colin, hates Alex. Colin seems like he only wants Brittany for sex, though, to me. When they are together, he is always trying to do things with her, and Brittany never wants to. Alex's ex girlfriend Carmen hates Brittany. She thinks Brittany likes Alex. Carmen wants Alex back, but he won't take her back because she cheated on him. I think that by the end of the book Alex and Brittany will be together, and that's really what I want to see happen.
